Interview with Sator Arepo

An interview I made with Sator Arepo during his passage through Universo Paralello Festival 14.

Marina Tavares – How did music arrive in your life?

Sator Arepo – Music always played an important role in my life. It was always my way of expression, either I felt good or bad.

Marina Tavares – When was your first electronic music party?

Sator Arepo – Ohh, that was quite late. My first trance party was back in 2004/2005. I never really liked electronic music. Since my childhood I was always into Metal, Grunge and Rap but when I discovered Psychedelic Trance I got infected immediately.

Marina Tavares – Tell me about the beginning of your career.

Sator Arepo – It all started right after my first Trance party. I used to play around with some music programs before already, making hip hop beats, but after the first party I really wanted to know how this music was created. So I tried around and slowly developed my style or my interpretation of Psychedelic Trance. I think more or less 1 or 1,5 years later I was lucky that a label from Greece got to listen to my music on MySpace and I released my first track. At this time I never thought that it would bring me that far.

Marina Tavares – What are your musical influences?

Sator Arepo – Hmmm, that’s a good question. I’m influenced by many styles of music, but for sure also by my music and label partners from Deviant Force Records and Parvati Records.

Marina Tavares – How was it playing at Universo Paralello Festival?

Sator Arepo – Universo Paralello was an unforgettable experience. It was always a dream to perform there one day. I’m really grateful for that opportunity. There’s a very special vibe in that festival. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope to be back there again.

Marina Tavares – Where was your most remarkable presentation?

Sator Arepo – It’s hard to pick out only one. But for sure Universo Paralello this year, Pulsar Festival 2016 & 2017 and what I always remember, 12 hours set of my side project Cracked Nozes (with Rawar/Lurker) at the first edition of Haunted Future Festival in Greece.

Marina Tavares – What do you think about the Brazilian electronic scene?

Sator Arepo – The Brazilian scene for me is very special. There’s super powerful dance floors and amazing energy. I really love to be and play in Brazil.

Marina Tavares – Where do you get inspiration to create new music?

Sator Arepo – From almost everything that inspires me. Most of the times it’s as mentioned already my way to express my feelings. So it can be a situation of the daily life, but also nature or just a mood of the moment or any experience.

Marina Tavares – What are the news about tours and releases?

Sator Arepo – There are a few releases in the pipeline which will come out soon. And I’m currently working on a bigger project, but don’t want to say too much at this point. Stay curious… 😉 About tours, I have already some confirmed dates for Brazil this year, and can’t wait to be back. Also I’m happy to go to Australia for the very first time. The full schedule of 2018 is published on my Facebook profile.

Marina Tavares – Do you want to leave a message to your fans?

Sator Arepo – Thank you for all the support and good energy through all the years! Tamojunto!!! May the force be with you! Stay deviant 😉
