	May 11th, 2001 Subtle Chaos Featuring: Eargear DJ set and Fletcher Mundson Syndrome (live) New York Frickin City Text: aaron I made my way through the miles of security and staff standing between the street entrance to the club and the actual trance party happening inside. I bought my $4 water bottle, vowing to refill it in the bathroom sink. (No problems there...;) I took some photos of the artwork, and slowly got into the groove. Even though the sound was absolute shite... (and i mean ABSOLUTE SHITE. i've never heard a more painfull sound-system set-up in my life- 90% mids and highs and about 10% bass- and the bass frequencies are being accented in that low mid muddy range that makes your stomach turn. Painfull sound i say- my main and only real gripe- Don't even bother bringing a headliner from across the atlantic if you aren't going to have some phat sound, ya know?) ...People were dancing up a storm! Dancing like mad! the smallish dancefloor made intimacy a must, and you could tell that this crowd was ok with that one! I saw very few people dancing stationarily- most bobbed and weaved about the dancefloor like bees following pheremones... The live set by Fletcher Mundson Syndrome was oh so tastefull, skillfull, and classy. They kind of followed a more minimal techno style, building from a very soft and dynamic beginning all the way up into storming full -on psy trance and then it was back to the decks- vinyl trance-techno spinning at its best. I was quite impressed with just how much dynamic range these guys explored as most trance-techno seems to be about slamming it ever harder harder harder- while these guys were not the least bit afraid of bringing it down to a whisper before slamming it back in... The decor deserves note as well. Very cool paintings like this one above. Stellar job on the fluoro artwork folks! very nice sets by the Subtle Chaos crew as well.
