Swedish police on the run from ChristianiaChased away by angry weedsalesmenCOPENHAGEN. A group of swedish civil cops had this weekend to escape the freetown Christiania in Copenhagen in a hurry. They had to consider the fact that people from the police - not even the swedish kind - isn't very popular guests in Christiania. The swedish "tourists" was chased out by angry weedsalesmen and locals. The episode happend when the swedish drugpolice had a conference on a hotel in Amager, quite close to Christiania. During this conference did 20-30 swedish cops decide themslefs to go out on a "secret" mission in Christiania, says the newspaper B.T. last Tuesday. According to the newspaper were the swedes everything else than discreet, and it didn't took many minutes before both the weebsalesmen and the locals understood that they had special guests. Acted suspicious The swedes were quickly observed beacuse they were asking personal questions to people nearby Pusher Street - The norths major weedmarket. They were surrounded by salesmen and locals who demanded to know if they were cops. The swedes confirmed this and one cop did even pick up his ID. (!) This action caught excitement to the scene. The locals didn't appreciate their presence and in the following tumult some of the swedes lost their ID's. The whole policegroup were then chased out with stones and foodleavings. Aleast one were forced out by hands. Not so pleased The danish police, which was unaware of the swedish colleagues conference, confirms that this episode really has happend. This is because the swedes reported on the Saturdayafternoon what has happend. Chiefinspector Mogens Lauridsen at the Copenhagenpolice consider his colleagues appearence as "very, very unwise". We at the Copenhagenpolice can't ofcourse stop our swedish colleagues from visiting Christiania as privatepersons. But they have under any circumstances no policeauthority in Denmark whatsoever, does he point out. |
