Sunrise Zone party April 24, 1999

Guest DJ’s: Sid Shanti(U.K), Lorry-X(Thessaloniki)

First of all I would like to apologize for the lack of any pictures but it was beyond my powers to find a camera film at 23:00 in the evening due to some crazy misunderstanding.
Anyway we arrived at the party around one o’clock and the place was almost empty, Gregory Staikos was warming up the place with some nice groovy tracks in the first hour of his set and then he took things further by playing some classic German stuff. The dancefloor was starting to fill up and the music was getting harder and harder but and this is a big BUT from 2:30 till 4:30 the next resident DJ(Kostas I think) took the ride, what can I say about him, thanx for fucking up my night would be O.K I think, I mean he played a two hours set where all the tracks had this ridiculous EQed kickdrum(yeah you know this kickdrum, it is the one that goes tsouf tsouf tsouf like a zap) and my head turned into a blender, I had a really bad headache with this thing. I can’t understand what producers find in this kickdrum and use it all the time. Anyway the crowd started to pack the dancefloor by the time Sid Shanti took controls. He started off playing some tracks which had -Oh my god it can’t be true- the zappy kickdrum but after a couple of this tracks he played some of the funkiest trance I ever heard in my life sort of a house-trance mix with crispy percussion and funky basslines. He even played one of my favorite tracks of all time “Thetrommelmachine” by Third Room. So the crowd was ‘avin’ it big style and some funky girlies were dancing really sexy and stuff but they where only three of them )-:. Generally the event had a lack of women which by me is a bad sign. Another attractive element was a girlie who was doing some weird acrobatics with a rope, she was fluoro painted and stuff pretty cool thing. I must say the crowd now is more open to changes and it was pretty encouraging for me to see ppl dancing to funky progressive tracks, they usually like to stomp dancing. At least they tried to dance into a funky way but not with good results in every move the thing though is to have a GOOD time and I believe they had.
Overall it was good and if DJ Kostas had never played it would be a lot better. We left the party at around 6:30 so I didn’t catch up Lorry and I don’t know what kind of music he played....Happy shiny people then.
