Various - "Not My Cup Of Tea" © Demon Tea Recordings
After some long waiting the new Demon Tea compilation is here but is it any good ? Does
it follow the quality standards of Oozie Goodness ? Or is it simply trash...You can rest
assured that this CD is not trash at all. Its a very nice compilation more Finland less
Australlia but it is still good. The sound follows from where the PeLinPaLa long player
left us. Minimalistic psychedelic fun for the trance nutters and not only.
Opener track "Super Tripper" by Odd Harmonic is a balanced journey into light and dark
with a nice driving bassline. Typical Odd effects bounce through the whole mix and the
result is a very dancefloor friendly track.
Next follows "Mellow Tone N" by Aumphibian, this track falls into the minimal side of
trance a bit harder and darkier although it has its lighted moments too. Some housey arrangements
give this a nice experimental edge.
What a track is next... James Reipas and The Polyphonic Stellar Juice deliver a really funny
cut, there has been some time since I laughed with a track that much. "String of Pearls" is the
name and definitely sums the plot. Funny lead sounds, popish orchestration and the rest is history.
Funny yet not ridiculous this is one of my favourites.
Psuedo Stereo keep up the tradition with "Move On", again minimal beatz, in and out effects and
the famous breakbeat drive in the middle of the track. Good track although not awesome.
Ahhh make way for the greeks... Weird Alchemy makes us prowd only by participating in this
compilation but their track isn't bad too, 60s wah-wah quitar loops, trippy effects and punk style drumming...
does this remind you something ? Ohh yeah they try to sound too much like Texas Faggot which is bad,
they should try more next time in order to have a more original sound. Not very bad though.
Follower artist needs no intro, Rip Van Hippy is a producer I love and this track keeps the faith.
Jazzy feeling, nice breaks, that well-known ritual style Rip vibe and we have another winner track.
This man seems that he can do no wrong...
Altough the name may seem a bit...well silly, Sci Fly vs Tweek deliver a techno edged track that's
the darker moment on this CD. Nice effects, crazy filters and driving arrangement make this a strong
cut for the late hour dancefloors. Mind boggling material.
Aha... This track (Benza - West into the Sun) is a good experiment although I do not like it at all. Happy vibe over dark
ovetones and a monstrous ten minute track. Take it or leave it, love it or hate it situation.
Next follows some old school material by Franny himself (Demon Tea owner) and THE figure in
Finland, Tim Thick. I fucking love this toone (Tea Chairs - Chillingham Cheese) even if Mr. Thick made this with the Shiwa 2000 project in mind.
Classic trance melodies, soaring lead lines and on the floor percussion are doing the job... not to mention
the fuck you intro and the fact that THEY HAVE STEALED ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS STRING LINES IN TRANCE HISTORY.
Yeah Sven will have a word with ya boys soon. Love it, great track, great vibe.
The CD closes with an ambiento style track although the 4/4 kick is still there. Dark yet mind relaxing "Organoid" is
a good track.
Overall I really enjoyed listening this compilation, classic Demon Tea followers will like it, Yumade followers will like it too since there are some
tracks matching the European vibe but experimentalists will probably argue on the fact that there is nothing experimental (appart some ninor sidestepping to other genres) in here and they may be right...
