Various - "Electric Byron Bay" © Edgecore Records

Edgecore records is an independent label from Byron Bay that has gathered most of the talent that lives there. People like Nick Taylor, A.B. Didjeridoo, Ray Castle and others are forces to be reckoned in the Edgecore artists roster. The so far releases prove that Edgecore is a label that knows no boundaries and releases music that pleases both the listener and the dancer. The latest offering from Edgecore is no different than the others being a multi-dimensional and dancefloor friendly journey.

Opener track "Get Up" by Junkbeats is a very nice tech-house cut, sweeping in and out some really funky tones. The bassline is phat and so is the drive, a dancefloor pleaser.

Next follows the Reflecta project which is Nick Taylor and Jeh messing around with the equipment and producing a funky little breakbeat/electro hybrid with the usual Taylorish psychedelic arrangement. Ultra phat and phanky, this one is for the steppers.

Up 'n' Atom is next and his track is very diverse, it sounds like Si Begg but it goes a lot further. A moody mellow vibe shadows the whole track with very nice breakbeats and lovely sounds. I love it and personally believe that it is one of the best tracks in this compilation.

More dancefloor vibes follow and Solar System pack the floor with some slow moving grooves, twisting it mid-turn into a foggy psychedelic drive. A growing dark horse to keep you busy during midnight.

Yeah man take dat you mamafuckah... Ultra in ya face intro and this drum and bass cut is pure dancefloor heaven with DJ Tayar providing his turntablism skills and Scott Tinkler messing with the trumpet. Distorted production, phat beatz and the odd hoover bass is the order of the day.

The darker and most psychedelic track comes courtesy of Psy-kik and its named "Slave Circuitry". A speedcore bassline drives the track with dark overtones bouncing through the mix. Tight cut for the late hours.

Again Nick Taylor pays the visit with his long standing Snake Thing project (used to record for T.I.P). This time the 4/4 kicks take the way out but the crazy breakbeats and the ever growling Juno noise keep it busy till the end. Another killer from a guy who is synonymous with psychedelic funk.

Saros and his spooky robots are next with "Genetic Memory". Futuristic lead lines and ultra underground vibe are the characteristics of this tune. Add some phat bass quakes and some twisted synth lines and you have the complete picture.

AB Didgeridoo takes a long ride into phunky disco grooves by completely changing his trance sound and mutating a very nice guitar lick. The result is a great tune that wins the floor big time. Probably the best track of this compilation by me, summerish and funky to the bone.

Ever wondered how Bob Marley would sound if he was from Australlia and lived till today... well here is the answer, Celestial Surfer delivers a fantastic piece of music. The summer soundtrack for all parties, 2-step basslines, warm textures and a really appealing vocal makes this a summer anthem for all beach parties.

Overall I believe this is a great piece of music collection with a track for every taste, not only psychedelic trance (and I mean that). Tech-house, new school beatz, electro all are covered and performed in great style. An all rounder that stays on focus and loses no plot.
