Label Profile # Demon Tea

Prologue

Demon Tea is one of my favourite labels feeling the gap (along Edgecore Records) when Psy-Harmonics stalled their production line some time ago. Demon Tea has a reputation of quality future looking releases that are aimed to experimentalists but I believe this is not quite true. Demon Tea releases are definetely experimental but they also have a good accesability level which is good for the not so trained ears.

This label profile intends to bring more trance (well not the way you used to know it) listeners to this awesome label as it has released some of the best albums I have heard in my lifetime and believe me I have listened lots of them.

General Info About Demon Tea

Demon Tea Recordings was formed in Brisbane late in 1997. After attending many of the Brisbane-Byron partiers from '94 onwards the owners gained so much personal growth from the parties that thought it was their duty to try to perpetuate the international psychedelic dance scene so others may benefit the same in the future.

They felt the best way to do this was at "grass roots" level, releasing and encouraging the local artists. Hence the birth of Demon Tea. Demon Tea now aims to release new interesting styles that are hard pigeon hole, and are not necessiceraly dance floor orientated.

Demon Tea Headquarters are now situated in Chillingham, the Rainforest of the upper part of the Tweed Valley, Northern NSW.

So Far Releases

Demon Tea is not a productive label, it has only released five albums all these years but their not so busy prodution schedule helps them keep the quality standards really high. Demon Tea releases have nothing to do with your average trance hit record, their enthrilling and give you this feeling of perfection, making you wait for the next release. So far their releases are :

DMT CD01 OCTOGROOVER - "Voyaging To The Light"

First release for Demon Tea, from local Brisbanite Peter Elson. Released late 1997, this was the testing waters for Demon Tea. Local response was overwhelming, proving that people do support local acts! Octogroover is now one of the hottest live acts from Brisbane, playing at nearly all the ourdoor parties happening around Brisbane!

DMT CD02 V/A - "OOZIE GOODNESS -The Eye Opening Elixir"

Released halfway through 1998, this is a electic collection of stompers all from local artists. Many styles are explored on this album, with new genres emerging. Internationally released early 1999.

DMT CD03 MANTARAY - "Numinous Island"

Originally released in 1995 on Silent Records, Canada, this album never got the proper distribution etc as Silent experienced many finacial problems. An absolute gem of an album, still one of the best ambient/chill albums ever. Ambient and relaxing yet very intense!!

DMT CD04 EXOTIC MATTER - "Astral Attache"

Full length solo project from Ray Castle, in a very Genre Bending and Fusing Style. Expect crazy beats and wild progressions. Very Psychedelic and a lot of fun!!

DMTCD05 ODD HARMONIC - "Coincidentalism"

Recently released, excellent full album. Very strange music, definitely not to be catagorised, ranging from laybed back beats to full tilt psychedelic nuttyness!

DMT LP01 TONGUE 'N' TWEAK - "Seminal Ra"

Finally for the collectors Demon Tea has also released a limited 500 copies only 12" from Tongue n' Tweak a.k.A Ray Castle and Phil Tompson. Once again, expect genre bending nuttyness, fusing breakbeats and pounding kickdrums.

Not So Far Releases

PeLinPaLa full album. Well know artist from Finland with releases on the execellent Exogenic record label is about to release his debut (I think) album on Demon Tea. Expect serious brain damage and guranteed dancefloor mayhem. Also Nam Shub of Enki is about to release an album for Demon Tea and a compilation is scheduled to get released afterwards named "Demon Tea Party" with mainly underground sounds from Australia and Finland.

Conclusion

Demon Tea certainly deserves your attention and with a roster-line featured with artists as highly acclaimed as Ray Castle and Phil Tompson you can expext only quality from this label.
