Thanasis Emmanouilidis aka Thanasonic is the founder of www.Bassline.gr a Greek webradio. He comes from Thessaloniki where he was born in 1984. Currently, beside his studying in Computer-Science at the University of Sheffield, he bought a lot of professional audio equipment and workes in his studio. The result are a couple of tracks that he hopes to release soon. Together with an interview he released two tracks in the greek music-technology magazine SOUNDMAKER (www.soundmaker.gr). He is also founder and administrator of other internet projects since 1999. He is infected by the hackers' idea and has contributed security advisories on the internet.Tell us about your projects?
Bassline.gr is Listener-supported, commercial-free, underground- psychedelic radio which plays Psy-Trance/ Prog-Trance music, 24hours NON STOP. The new version is up and running. We have adopted a new streaming technology (AAC+) which gives a great CD-like guality to our listeners. Start saving on bandwidth and check it out now! Furthermore, we have added a new forum (http://forum.bassline.gr) for all our international users to join and get informed about things concerning our radio, events, promotional and many more ... Finally, DJ-Sets or promos are always welcome. I have also played as a DJ to parties here in Greece. Finally, I hope people will like my music style and also support “Bassline.gr”.
Did you think copy kills music - or copy makes the artist famous? What did you experience with p2p and track-swapping? specially as radio station did you send the trackslists and give people the opportunity to copy from you? in which rates do you stream?Copying music is unethical and infringes the copyright law legislation. On the other hand, many people say that copy makes the artist famous. I agree with both opinions but I don't know exactly where far this situation will go. People must realize that when they buy a cd, they are supporting labels + artist to survive and bring them more releases. Internet is not as free as you believe. We live in the Information Society and don't be afraid if in some years we will have prosecutions for downloading…Concerning our radio stream, it is not difficult to “record” our program and have the tracklists (although we are not supporting it). We play at 32kbps / 44KHZ in AAC+ encoding which is great for internet use.
Where do you see yourself in 5/10/20 years? Where do you see our scene in the future?I see my self been graduated as a Computer Scientist. Also, I can imagine myself behind a cluster of computers and professional audio gear. Specifically, working into my future job's office, producing tracks on my personal studio and finally releasing my music and test it on the dance floors and on the internet. In addition, I see “Bassline.gr” to have many fanatic listeners and 3 kinds of streams (psy/prog/chill).
I could not imagine myself in 10 or 20 years, because my mental consciousness does not go so far. J I hope I will finish successfully all the projects that I have in mind the next years…Regarding the trance scene, I think it will have a slight progress and that's because many new talents will appear. People will have more choices in what they want to hear and also new “academies” of psy and progressive will be created. Music technology will improve more and more and this will bring amazing techniques to producing. Internet radios will govern the world and you will have the opportunity to listen to “Bassline.gr” in your car.
Your definition of luck & satisfaction? Maybe anything to tell about "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll"?Luck is not when you win the lottery. Satisfaction comes from personal work and social recognition. Finally, about the phrase “sex, drugs and rock'n'roll” : I don't like rock and roll !!!!
Your favorite musicians? Some beside trance?
I like Astrix, Eskimo, GMS, Dino Psaras, Wizzy Noise, Ticon, Sub 6 and Wrecked Machines, They all have their unique style of music. Beside trance, I like Madonna!
